Another Halloween-fic about Electra ... Will be finished little by little^^
Electra cursed quietly; the, for human relations very small pumpkin she was trying to hollow out with her claws and to cut in a creepy Halloween grin, cracked. The half-finished Halloween decoration now had a loose tooth on the bottom mouth because the dark tabby had stuck in there with her claws. The young queen pouted fury. Two hours of work were now ruined!
In this moment someone behind her coughed audible and disapproving and Electra bit her lips rolling her eyes when she turned her head with both ears back to him: “Sorry, Munkustrap, but this damned, f-!” The striped female interrupted herself when she recognized his face expression. She gulped and swallowed randomly swearwords onto her tongue down to not to shout them out in front of the large silver tabby.
“I suggest you calm down again!” Munkustrap’s eye brows were right now on a trip up to his black ears and the reddish tortoiseshell tried hard to close her mouth and nodded; living on the streets of London formed her like she formed this pumpkin. Deformed, Electra thought annoyed and nudged the loose tooth to show Munkustrap the reason for her bad mood. The thing swung back and forth sad, pitiful. And nevertheless the young tabby got the impression her still grinning pumpkin was joking at her. Munkustrap however smiled to her playfully.
“What if your pumpkin had to loose his first milk tooth right now?” The silver striped tom winked at Electra whose sadly face got into a little pout. Doubtful she studied the male: “Would you be afraid of this Halloween pumpkin now? It isn’t creepy anymore at all!” Pleadingly with dropped ears the reddish striped female looked up to Munkustrap and asked him for sticky tape or glue to got the tooth tight again; finally she took much time and effort to do this. But he shook his head. Too dangerous, he explained Electra and also that both would risk trouble with their human family. The memory of what happened when the dark tabby wanted to stick anything else still was on his mind. It must have looked funny to his humans but for Electra and himself certainly it wasn’t!
And Everlasting, this little accident wasn’t the end of the world! No one was perfect and so surely not everyone’s pumpkin. But here Electra seemed to reach her borders; she wanted to dance like Victoria, sing like Jemima, court like Bombalurina … also when the young female didn’t show it open to all. So Munkustrap had a last try: “Why don’t you try to see the other side? This pumpkin is surely unique now” – Electra snorted disgruntled – “and nevertheless you can put in a light for tonight. So it still serves its purpose.”
The silver tabby didn’t really think that this would convince Electra but to his own surprise the young dark striped queen sighed resigned and nodded. Like the striped male would get encouraged by her reactions he added: “I see no reason why you shouldn’t be proud about yourself and your masterpiece of a Halloween pumpkin!” Hopefully, Munkustrap added to himself in his mind, his smile was so encouraging to Electra, too. He couldn’t help but compare Electra and her pumpkin with himself and the young tabby.
Electra’s face in fact got a little bit brighter than before, she turned her head to her pumpkin, back to Munkustrap and smiled back at him weakly: “You think my pumpkin would have some similarities with me because of that?” Suddenly the young queen grinned and giggled in a much better mood.
“You could be right! It looks pretty much like me when I was a little kitten!” Joking Electra grabbed the fruit and hold it up next to her head for a comparison. In the meantime she couldn’t suppress laughter: “What do you think?”
Relieved Munkustrap joined the laughter and helped Electra to put in a small, safe light into the pumpkin that wouldn’t burn out the whole work. During it both had to find out that the gloomy light within threw its flickering light over the loose wobbling tooth and awakened the creepy impression that the thing would in fact laugh out loud sneering but without a voice: “This thing could put Macavity to flight!”, was all Munkustrap said about these effects while Electra observed it amazed, “let us take it to the next Jellicle Ball, then we have our rest for him!”
The young dark striped female smile brightly and sudden jerked heavily with a shriek when a loud pounding could be heard behind her. Munkustrap looked up and gestured to the kits behind the window pane. Electra turned her head around and was radiant with happiness when she recognized her friends Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer with a very outsized pumpkin and also Etcetera, Sillabub and a strange black queen next to them who glanced over herself every single minute. All kittens held pumpkins like this of Electra in their paws and the creepy grins and smiles worked out very good.
“Sweets or sours!”, Mungojerrie said loud with a wide smile barely after Munkustrap opened the window and stretched out both paws. Teazer did like her brother and grinned mischievous at Electra. The dark tabby grinned back and then turned her attention back to the unknown black cat with tilted head and frowned; oddly she reminded striped queen on anyone...
“Hi Electra”, she said now with a moody face expression and her voice finally brought Electra’s memory back. Confused she turned her head to all other kittens who wore different pattern than ordinary; Etcetera was dyed red and black with a white breast while Sillabub’s brownish fur disappeared under golden-yellowish colour. She was radiant with happiness and giggled when she recognized Electra’s quite stupid look: “Vic lost her bet about to whom the roles will be given! Now she needs to play a Hench!” Grinning Silla nudged her friend who looked pretty unhappy about what she was going to become.
In the next second Electra almost slapped herself about she forgot this; tonight on Halloween they were performing Macavity’s last attack when he once more disturbed and almost ruined the Jellicle Ball. Snorting the reddish tabby shook her head stunned. She completely lost it out of her mind working keen and of course till the last minute on her Halloween pumpkin.
“And Lu is finally ready? She probably needed hours to get her costume complete?”, she asked Teazer who nodded impressed: “All the red feathers she needed to knot onto her fur ... but we’ve already seen her!” The young queen widened her eyes and Etcetera added: “She isn’t remindable at all!” A little shiver ran over her back.
“So do we want to go now?“, Munkustrap asked smiling and excited himself.
